Yesterday, news reports emerged that Gautam Adani, one of India’s richest men and an ally of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will have the bribery charges against him dropped. According to a report in the Washington Post, Adani was facing charges that he paid millions in bribes to Indian government officials while telling U.S.-based investors about his strong anti-bribery principles. U.S prosecutors alleged that Adani, worth $104 billion, bribed Indian officials to the tune of $250 Million to secure solar energy contracts. In an interesting twist, Adani said that if his case were dropped, he would invest 10 billion in the U.S. economy. For someone who is being cleared in a large-scale bribery case, offering $10 billion in investments to the U.S. economy sounds suspiciously like a bribe.

Kejriwal Released On Bail By The Indian Supreme Court.
Several weeks ago, I wrote an article about the Chief Minister of the capital of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, being arrested in March for corruption charges. Today, a court in India ruled that he should be released from prison and allowed to campaign during the ongoing national elections. According to a report by Yahoo, Kejriwal warned that India is on the brink of “dictatorship.” As soon as Kejriwal was released, thousands of his supporters flooded the streets of New Delhi in celebration. Despite Kejriwal being released on bail, considering the state of democracy in India at the moment, it wouldn’t surprise me if he ended up back in prison.
Indian Cricket Embroiled in Corruption Scandal.
In recent days Indian cricket has been embroiled in a corruption scandal. According to an article in ESPN, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has charged Indian umpire Jatin Kashyap failed to cooperate with the ICC’s anti-corruption unit. According to a statement by the ICC, Kashyap has been charged with failing to provide accurate or complete information to the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) and possibly obstructing the investigation. From all the available reporting, it is unclear what exactly could have caused this investigation to be started. However, cricket has had a history of match-fixing scandals before, and if this story is true, it could spell trouble for Indian cricket.
